Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) clearly state that; for a prospective student to be offered admission into 100 level of the chosen course in any of the Institutions, he/she must sit for “Use of English” which is mandatory for all courses.

English is the official language in Nigeria. The language is used for all formal communication in government and is also the language used in the drafting of legislation as well as in the Nigerian judicial system. English is also incorporated into the education system of Nigeria as the medium of instruction.

In WAEC, NECO or GCE, a credit pass in English Language is required for all courses except where it is stated otherwise. So if you have a D7 in English Language, your chances for admission are slim. Very few courses accept D7 in English provided you can support it with 5 additional subjects.

However, universities such as OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE does not accept a pass in English Language for admission to any programme.

You cannot study any course within the EDUCATION with a D7 in Engish Language.
