Nigeria university is a world of its own where there are set rules and regulations governing her everyday affair. One of such rules is the punishment for examination malpractice/ misconducts. You know, students can be funny. The urge to succeed may lead to ungodly and unacceptable behaviour.

Therefore, these examination act penalties have been set aside to curb such behaviour. Here are some misconducts with corresponding punishment/penalties. The list is not exhaustive and may vary according to each university policy.

Expulsion from the university
The following are examination malpractice/misconducts that may lead to student expulsion from the university

  • A student found with unauthorized answer scripts or written material in the examination hall.
  • Impersonation (for both the impersonator and the impersonated). However, where the impersonator is not a student at the University he/she shall be handed over to the police. If a student of the faculty impersonates anyone outside the University he/she may be expelled from the University.
  • Student refusal to hand over the suspected offending material(s).
  • Destruction of suspected offending material(s).
  • Assaulting or fighting an invigilator or any other examination officer.

 

Repeat the year
The following are examination malpractice/misconducts that may lead to a student repeating a year

  • Exchange answer scripts or written materials in the examination hall (common among students).
  • Failure to return an answering script after the examination.
  • Collaborative copying (common among students).
  • Tendering of any unauthentic document relating to the examination. (fake I.d, fake school fees print out)
  • Refusal to sign the examination misconduct form.
  • Smuggling of question paper out of the examination hall.

Award ‘F’
The following are examination malpractice/misconducts that may lead to a student be awarded F

  • Unruly behaviour to the invigilator or any other examination officer.
  • Refusal to sign the examination malpractice/misconducts form.

 

Warning
The following are examination malpractice/misconducts that may lead to a warning

  • Writing before the start of the examination.
  • Borrowing or lending any material in the examination hall.
  • Writing after the call for a stop of examination.
  • Writing things other than registration number on the question paper provided none of the misconducts (a) (ii) above is committed.
  • Talking to another student during the examination.
  • Looking into another student’s answer scripts.

  1. What if you were seen with a writing on the palm during the examination?
    However it might not be related to the course!
    But you struggled to clean it after been caught!
