About Mining Engineering
Before you consider the JAMB UTME subject combination (subjects to write in jamb) to study Mining Engineering, it is good you know what this course is all about. Mining Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the science, technology and application of extracting and processing minerals from a natural environment.
In Nigeria, mining engineering courses include the extraction of valuable mineral resources from the ground for processing and utilization. It involves all the phases of mining operations starting from exploration and discovery, feasibility, development, production, processing, and marketing. After that, it is also required to restore and rehabilitate the land from where the extraction was done.
Mining Engineers are responsible for locating natural reserves of minerals, petroleum, and other useful natural resources and lay out the plans, device shafts, inclines or quarries for the safe extraction of these resources from under the earth. The natural resource can be coal, petroleum, metallic or non-metallic minerals, etc. While planning to extract the natural resource from under the earth a mining engineer also has to keep into mind workers health, safety and welfare.
Mining Engineers are required to have knowledge of other disciplines as well. These include geology, civil and mechanical engineering, metallurgy, commerce, economics, management, law and information technology. Determining the practicality of mining an ore deposit, designing the ventilation system for an underground mine, supervising the construction of conveyors at an open-pit site, researching the development of a new extraction processes are some of the activities involved in the mining engineers work.
JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Mining Engineering
Knowing JAMB subjects for Mining Engineering is not enough. You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just a piece of advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. If you’re having troubles JAMB UTME maybe it’s time you pass through IJBM, JUBEB, ND, HND or Predegree!..
JAMB UTME subject combinations (subjects to write in jamb) to study Mining Engineering are:
Direct Entry requirement (required A-level result) to study Mining Engineering
(i) ‘A’ level passes in any two of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(ii) ND (upper credit) in Mining Engr./ Mineral Resources and Geological Study in addition to ‘O’ level requirements
If for some reason you are not satisfied or cannot meet up with this admission requirement that is the subject combination above, perhaps you should consider other Mining Engineering similar courses or take a look at Polytechnic or College of Education related course subject requirements.
