WAEC Subject Combination For Economics

In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for an Economics degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.

However, you must have at least 5 credit passes amongst the 9 subjects listed below before you can gain admission into any Nigerian university to study for an Economics degree.

• Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) requires Five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography/ Government and any Arts or Social Science subject.
• University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a pass in Mathematics, but such candidates will be required to pass a remedial course in Mathematics
•  University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two of Arts, Social Sciences and Science subjects. Commerce is not accepted.
•  Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) – same as Marketing.
•  University of Ibadan (UI) requires 5 credit passes to include Mathematics, Economics and any two Arts or Social Science subjects.
• Crescent University (CUAB) and Bayero University, Kano (BUK) accept two only Social Science subjects.
•  University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) requires Government, History or Geography.
•  University of Benin (UNIBEN) accepts ND (Upper Credit)/HND (Lower Credit) in relevant subjects. Direct Entry candidates must satisfy UTME requirements.
•  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba requires English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject plus any other subject
•  Ekiti State University requires five ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English language, Mathematics, Economics and any two other subjects, one of which must be a Social Science subject.
• Kogi State University Anyigba requires any two relevant subjects as the fourth and fifth subjects.
