In WAEC, NECO or GCE, you are expected to register a maximum of 9 subjects for an Urban and Regional Planning degree. You can register for less than 9 subjects if you are resitting.

Can a commercial or art student study Urban and Regional Planning?
No! Urban and Regional Planning is a pure science course and not suitable for commercial or art student. But if you have the required subject combination in your O level result, you can go for it if that is the course you desire to study. If you’re still in secondary school, you may find it difficult to change subjects during WAEC registration because your schools may go against it. The alternative way to write the required subjects combination for Urban and Regional Planning is through GCE.

- Federal University of Technology, Akure requires five credits at not more than two sittings in SSCE, WASSCE, NECO, or its equivalent in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two subjects from Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science, Economics, and Technical Drawing. The prospective candidate must have at least a pass in Physics.
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria requires five ‘0’ level credit in English Language, Mathematics and Geography and any other two from Economics, Technical Drawing, Fines Arts, Chemistry and Biology.
- Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) requires Five `O’ level credits in English Mathematics, Geography, Economics, and any one from Technical Drawing, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agric. Sci., Fine Art, Visual Arts.
- Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) accepts Economics in lieu of Geography, but does not accept Govt., IRS, CRK and Social Studies.
- River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) do not accept IRK, CRK, History and Social Studies.
- Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) accepts Agricultural Science as sciences.
- Abia State University, Uturu does not insist on Geography.
- University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires 5 credit level passes at SSC to include English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects from Economics, Government, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Physics, Chemistry, Agric Science, and Biology.
- University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires credit in English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, and Fine Arts/Technical Drawing.
- Abia State University, Uturu requires a credit in Economics as UTME requirements.
- Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accepts credit in Fine Arts and Surveying
- University of Uyo requires a credit in Mathematics.
- Renaissance University, Enugu requires five SSCE credit including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography/Tech. Drawing at not more than two sittings.
- Bells University of Technology, Otta requires five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two from Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
- River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) and Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) require two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Economic, Biology and Surveying. River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) accepts credit in Government.
- MINAA and Abia State University, Uturu require five credit including English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Economics and Government.
- Crescent University (CUAB) requires two other subjects from Sciences and Social Sciences.
- University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires two other credit from Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, Fine Art and Technical Drawing.
- Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires at least five ‘O’ Level credits in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English Language, and any other from Geography, Biology, Economics, Technical Drawing.
- Benue State University, Makurdi requires five SSCE credit in English Language, Mathematics and any three of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Government, Biology, Art, History, IRK/CRK, Social Studies, Technical Drawing and Geography
